Nar
Overview of the Nar
The Nar, meaning "folk" in Varka, the language of the Nar, are a resilient race shaped by the harsh landscapes of Takra. Descended from the Vorlathen, who migrated from Veltheron, the Nar evolved over millennia to adapt to their unforgiving environment. They are physically robust, with luminous eyes reflecting their Veltheron heritage, and are guided by Durzakh, "The Way of Survival," an ancestral code emphasising resilience and resourcefulness. United by their origins and shaped by Takra’s challenges, the Nar embody strength, independence, and the enduring legacy of the Vorlathen.
The Nar have evolved into six distinct subraces, each uniquely adapted to the varied and harsh environments of Takra:
Barynár (People of the North): Reside in temperate forests and river plains, known for their strength and rivercraft.
Günnar (People of the South): Thrive in rainforests near great rivers and lakes, agile and resourceful.
Qumnar (People of the Sands): Nomadic desert dwellers, renowned for their endurance and control of arid territories.
Tashnar (People of the Rocks): Inhabit rugged cliffs and mountains, excelling as builders and defenders.
Sülnar (People of the Still Waters): Reclusive guardians of oasis settlements, controlling vital trade routes.
Arnar (People of the Flowing Waters): Thrive along great rivers, skilled in navigation and trade.
Varka Language
Varka, meaning "Words" or "The Language of Speech," is the ancient tongue of the Nar, originating from the Vorlathen language spoken by their unified ancestors. As the tribes migrated and formed subgroups, Varka evolved into regional variants, unified by shared roots and purpose. Used for governance, spirituality, and survival, Varka reflects the Nar's deep connection to nature and their resilience. Its writing system, Vakrun, is a sacred proto-script used exclusively by the Zülmar, preserving laws, teachings, and ancestral wisdom while most rely on oral tradition. Varka remains the voice of unity and survival among the Nar.
